Legal Requirements for a New Business in Stanly County

Community Profile

While largely rural with farms, mountains and charming small towns, Stanly County is less than an hour from metropolitan Charlotte with its urban amenities. Stanly County offers considerably lower utility rates, real estate, construction cost and living costs than our neighbors. Stanly’s two bordering counties to the west are Union and Cabarrus, which are among the fastest growing in the nation. With the recent opening of I-485 loop around Charlotte, Stanly County natives know it’s only a matter of time before they’re in the same league.

The county also boasts a large available workforce with a virtually nonexistent unionization rate. It has two of the best work training institutions in the state, Stanly Community College and Pfeiffer University.

For businesses eager to get operations off the ground, Stanly County has four NC Certified Sites, one of which includes the Prime Power Park®, the first of its kind in North Carolina. Through a partnership with the City of Albemarle, ElectriCities and the Stanly County Economic Development Commission, the Prime Power Park® is specifically designed to attract new industrial customers with mission-critical power needs. Located across from the Albemarle/Stanly County Airport, the 180 acre park features a redundant power supply system using 2 - 1.8 megawatt generators to supply power to park tenants under emergency conditions.

A low tax rate and strong economic aid package that include cash grants for new taxable investment as well as tax credits for newly created jobs and an abundance of affordable Greenfield industrial sites make the county very attractive for expansion. The result is a diverse group of companies that call Stanly County home, from Michelin Aircraft Tire Corp. to Conveyor Components Inc.

Goods are easily transported by Interstates 85 and 77, rail (Norfolk Southern, CSX and Winston-Salem Southbound), sea (Wilmington, Morehead City, Charleston and Savannah) or air (Albemarle/Stanly County Airport, accommodating virtually any type of private and corporate jet up to a Boeing 737-300, as well as Charlotte Douglas International Airport).

Stanly County has seen success building a more diverse economy with growth in such industries as plastics, precision metal manufacturing and wood products.

Stanly County residents appreciate living in a smaller community where the standard of living is high and access to metropolitan Charlotte is less that an hour away. Stanly County continues to offer business “The Best of Both Worlds”.
